Hohe Tauern National Park
The biggest conservation area in the Alps ... a wild traditional landscape and cultural mountain farming landscape. The two guises of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Spanning 1856 km² it is by far the biggest nature conservation area in the Alps. The conservation area extends across vast Alpine traditional landscapes, taking in glaciers, rocky cliffs and expanses of lush grass - across alpine landscapes which have been carefully and painstakingly maintained for centuries. In the years which followed the conservation area, which takes in three federal states - Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol - has become the biggest protected natural area in the Alps.
